Can I Really Work My Way through College?

A Beka Customer Service

Are you wondering if you’ll be able to handle a job and classes, too? What about time for social activities? With the variety of campus opportunities at PCC and class scheduling designed with you in mind, you can do both. Much of PCC’s student body works part-time and completes class assignments while still being able to enjoy social activities. Students gain practical experience working in many different areas such as dining services, maintenance, security, grounds, office areas, print shop, A Beka Academy, and more.

PCC's Work Assistance Program helps thousands of students pay for their college education.

College costs are often a deciding factor in choosing a college. PCC is very affordable at $6,500 for yearly tuition, room and board, but it can be more affordable with PCC's Work Assistance Program which allows eligible students to earn $2,240 — $3,710 each school year. Summer work opportunities are also available.

Students in this program gain practical experience in one of 48 different work areas such as dining services, maintenance, College office, or print shop.

"But what if I can't handle classes and a job, too?" It can be done. Over 1,800 students complete their class assignments and enjoy Collegian functions, Christian service, sports, and other activities while working part-time.

Here are Some Testimonies of Those Who Are—

Christine, from Michigan, works in the Admissions office, and says, "The Work Assistance program is great. I am learning skills I can use after I graduate. I work in a great atmosphere and have met new people and made new friends. Working has allowed me to cut my school bill almost in half. I would recommend the Work Assistance program to anyone."

Kyle comes from American Samoa and works on the grounds. He comments, "The work assistance program allowed me to choose work hours that fit my class schedule perfectly. Working in the golf cart shop gave me the opportunity to apply what I have learned in my classes and simultaneously learn hands-on experience. The work environment as well as the convenient times and locations of work places make on campus work an unbeatable opportunity to pay for school."

Brad calls Georgia home and says, "I have really loved having a part in paying for my college career. Not only did it give me greater character, but also experience in the work area that will carry on into my future ministry. I also loved the ministry aspect of my job. I worked at the Print Shop and my job was to bind books together that get shipped all over the world. It was nice knowing that I personally helped put together thousands of books to help children through school. What a great program! I not only helped myself pay my bills, but helped children all over the world learn. Now that’s more than a job; it’s a ministry."

Kendra, from Florida, says, "When I came to college I knew I would be working my way through with the Work Assistance program. I didn’t know what a blessing it would be. I worked in Dining Services for four years and stayed at PCC three summers in order to pay my school bill. I praise the Lord for the opportunity to work on campus. Being able to graduate debt free wasn’t the only blessing; I also met my closest friends at work and learned valuable lessons in time management. I praise the Lord for the work program at PCC."

Kristen said, "Each day [I worked] in the [A Beka Book] office not only assisted me in paying for my school bill, but it also assisted me in preparing for life. My education at PCC was not solely received in the classroom, but also on the job through the work assistance program."
